What to Expect in a Non-Invasive Body Contouring Treatment

Getting your ideal physique can be a long and frustrating journey. While you may be able to lose unwanted weight through diet and exercise, you may still have some stubborn areas that won’t budge. There may also be cases where your progress goes unnoticed or you get the opposite of the results you’re looking for.

The key is to keep moving or engaging in healthy habits. Sanctuary by Cutis also offers non-invasive solutions that can support or boost what you’re already doing. Whether you’re looking to trim down your waist, reduce fat, or sculpt and tone your physique, we can help with our body contouring treatments

Continue reading as we explore more about these treatments and share with you the things you need to know.

What is non-invasive body contouring?

Non-invasive body contouring, also called body sculpting, refers to reshaping certain areas of the body without cuts or needles. The goal is to create a more toned or sculpted look through the use of heating, cooling, or other treatment modalities. It allows people to improve their body shape without the need for surgery.

People turn to these procedures to:

  • Reduce stubborn fat to improve the body’s silhouette
  • Reduce the circumference of a specific area (like the abdomen or thighs)
  • Enhance the tone and firmness of the muscles
  • Reduce the look of sagging skin
  • Improve the look of cellulite

With non-invasive solutions, most people need several sessions to see the desired results. Improvements also appear gradually, with full results showing after a few months.

How does non-invasive body contouring work?

Non-invasive body contouring works by using a machine or system that delivers controlled energy, like cold or heat. This targets fat cells, causing them to undergo apoptosis or natural cell death. The body will then naturally remove the treated cells, resulting in a more contoured or sculpted appearance without surgery.

Here are the common methods used in non-invasive body contouring/sculpting:

  • Cryolipolysis – is also known as fat freezing or CoolSculpting. It uses controlled cooling temperatures to target localized fat deposits in stubborn areas or those that don’t respond well to diet and exercise. At Sanctuary by Cutis, we have CoolSculpting Elite in Singapore, which offers a more comfortable fat freezing treatment, with improved results.
  • Radiofrequency heating – uses radiofrequency energy to heat and destroy fat cells. The heat causes the cells to break down and liquefy, which will then be naturally removed or processed by the body. Vanquish ME is a US FDA-cleared procedure for circumference reduction of areas like the abdomen and thighs.
  • Laser heating – uses laser energy to target, heat and eliminate fat cells. Just like RF, this method also delivers targeted heat to fat cells that cause them to break down and be naturally processed by the body over time. Treatment areas include the abdomen, flanks, back, thighs, and under the chin.
  • Ultrasound – uses ultrasound technology to break down fat cells underneath the skin. The ultrasound waves are focused on areas of concern, causing the fat cells to vibrate, break down, and be naturally processed and removed by the body’s lymphatic system.
  • Electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) – uses electrical pulses to induce deep muscle contractions, which can be more intense than a typical workout. It is used in muscle toning and building, as well as in fat reduction. It can target the abdomen, arms, thighs, and buttocks.

Are non-invasive treatments painful?

Most non-invasive treatments are generally well-tolerated with minimal discomfort. Depending on the modality used, some patients describe the procedure as similar to a heated massage instead of a painful procedure. And since they don’t involve cuts or needles, most require no downtime or recovery period.

Discomfort or sensation, of course, varies from patient to patient. Some may experience a warm or cooling sensation, but these are temporary and well-tolerated. It is also possible to feel slightly uncomfortable, but this will only last for just a few minutes.

Who is a good candidate for non-invasive body contouring?

While non-invasive treatments have no downtime and carry little risk, not everyone is an ideal candidate. Some patients might be more suited for surgical procedures, while others might need to do some work to be eligible for any non-invasive body contouring or sculpting procedure.

Good candidates include those who:

  • Are near or within their ideal weight
  • Have localized fat deposits (belly, flanks, thighs, upper arms, back, under the chin)
  • Have realistic expectations
  • Are seeking non-surgical solutions

Non-invasive treatments ARE NOT for those who:

  • Are looking for significant weight reduction/obesity management
  • Have excessive skin laxity or significant loose skin
  • Consider these procedures as a substitute for diet and exercise

What results to expect

Non-invasive body contouring or sculpting are designed to reduce stubborn fat and improve body shape without going under the knife. Results appear gradually within two to three months or more, showing subtle but noticeable results in targeted areas such as the abdomen, thighs, and flanks.

To achieve optimal results, you will need multiple sessions based on your individual profile or the areas you’re looking to treat. The results may not always be permanent, but they are long-lasting and can depend on your lifestyle. Following the recommended number of sessions and engaging in healthy habits can extend the results of your treatment.
